Default Pictures being used without credit....

I'm just kinda curious ... what can you do if you see someone using a picture of yours without due credit, or actually in this case stripping the credit OFF the picture... ??

This is the original

This is what I found on a bigger St Louis car club's myspace page...

http://a964.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...829644fadb.jpg

(you may not be able to view it unless you're logged into myspace... )

but basically it's the first picture with my info just cropped off there...

First would be to send them an email asking them to remove the image.

If its on myspace you can report it and it'll be taken down. Also email the person who uploaded it telling him its either going to be removed or to remove it.
Next time put the watermark in the middle of the picture

Ya I guess that's what I have to do now is move the watermark to the middle of the picture..

I messaged the owner of the site and asked that they either remove the image, or replace it with the correct one.. so we'll see..

Yeah the thing you might run into having any legal action is unless they are making money off the site or the photo its public.. they did remove the logo/copyright which is pretty much copyright infringement instantly.

well the day after messaging them, they put my image up...

For some reason left the other image there.. (I don't care why) as long as they put my image up, they're obviously the same picture....

Here's what they wrote back...

thats the pic i had gotten off of ****** like that and i can change the pic that is on there to the one you sent..... not a problem.....
They're not selling it.. so I'm not worried about that.... I'm not really all that worried about it at all it just kinda irritated me that someone would crop out my information, it's not like I am charging for usage or like kepner (nothing against him) if you're gonna take a picture you have to go through the code to find yours.....

At the end of the day, the best way to keep your photo's secured is not to put them on the web at all.

So true, but, if you need to post them, then try and make it dang hard for them to do any editing on it. Type the text and information right into the picture around the center of view so it makes it difficult to do any editing.

Step by step instructions for adding watermarks in Photoshop:

I use Batch Watermark Creator for adding visible watermarks.

By the way Newspapers have been taking images for years without permission. The standard was to publish the image and if none complains then no big deal. When Rocky Mountain News published my pic without my website info I had to send a legal letter. SO they had to pay up. Of course I didn't want money I wanted the exposure. It was advertising I wanted. Oh well. The internet isn't the only place people violate copyright laws left and right.
